Good Vibes, Bad Vibes
I'm feeling okay about the election; not so much about the days afterwards.
I’m feeling a little more hopeful about next week’s election. I’m not a pollster. I don’t have the inside scoop with power players in either party. I’m just a Substack newsletter writer ensconced in suburban New Jersey. So, my very cautious election prediction are based entirely on “vibes” from social media, conversations, and excessive viewing of cable television news. With those disclaimers in place, Harris is winning my “vibes” predictions.
Nate Silver still says that the election is a coin toss.
I don’t think she’s run a perfect campaign. I think that Democrats have to do a better job of reaching out to lower income, less educated men. That said, Trump is a train-wreck, and he should not be near the White House.
While I’m resting more easily about the election itself, today I’m concerned about what will happen on Election Day and the week afterwards.
Polling usually happens in the gym of the elementary schools in my town, while school is in session. This year, for the first time ever, the kids are getting the day off from school, while people are voting in the gym. School officials are worried about a crazy dude doing something terrible in a school building full of little children.
With Trump still denying the previous election results, we could be looking at another Jan. 6 riot. The situation in the Middle East could boil over. So many scenarios, which keep a neurotic like me glued to social media until the early hours of the night.
I’m going to pass along links to interesting articles today. Mostly election, but not all.
New York Times — People are moving to areas of the country that reflect their political views. The new “sorting.” (Great graphics.)
If you're the parent of a child with autism or any disability, vote for the person who will keep your child safe when you're gone. Who is going to fully fund special ed? Who is going to bolster the disability safety net? Who is going to help families find resources? Harris says all the right things.
