Because I’m a shallow creature who follows gossip writers, my social media feed is awash with images of Lauren Sanchez Bezos with her ice-cream scoop boobs encased in yards of Italian lace. Understanding the assignment, her wedding guests squeezed their sculpted bodies into pink leather and tulle.
The event was an exercise in excess. It was unapologetically grotesque. I spent this morning doing a full review of all the dresses. See note above: shallow.
Speaking of shallow, I enjoyed Bethenny Frankel’s take on the wedding. While adding layers and layers of eye shadow, Frankel congratulates Sanchez for “bagging the elephant” and for basically being the G.O.A.T. of women in their 50s. Bethenny congratulates Lauren on her quest to help Bezos spend his money and have fun.

Bezos may be a tacky, rich guy who should be taxed at a higher rate, but at least he married an age-appropriate woman. He does get points for that. Sanchez may have overdone the plastic surgery and injectables, but she is a role model for women who aren’t going lightly into their J. Jill years.
Mental note: make an appointment to talk to a doctor about a GLP shot.
Also, people should have fun. Everybody at this wedding looks like they are having a great time. Rock on, rich dudes!
The Thunderdome
On one side of the thunderdome, we have the Bezos wedding, on the other side, we have a 33-year-old socialist who won the Democratic primary in New York City — Zohran Mamdani.
Mamdani’s platform — free transportation, lower-priced groceries, free childcare — is the equivalent of the high school kid who wins his class president election by promising free sodas and no homework. Yes, all of those things would be great for low-income New Yorkers, but they are fantasy land policies.
Mamdani was elected by young people in the city, some of whom are truly struggling to find a good entry-level job in a bad economy. Others grew up in affluent suburbs, went to $350,000 colleges, and are disappointed to not be in the same income bracket as their parents. They are Ivy League socialists who summer with mommy in the Hamptons and support Luigi Mangione.
Can Mamdani win in November? Will we end up with Curtis Sliwa as the next mayor of New York City? New York City has always elected flashy, problematic mayors, but Mamdani is even more unsubstantial. This election feels as unserious as the Bezos wedding.
The Big Beautiful Bill
Meanwhile, the Senate just approved Trump’s budget proposal. Reducing the 900-page bill to one sentence: Trump wants to lower taxes and cut benefits for Medicaid. The Bezos guests will benefit. Mamdami’s family — a college professor and a Hollywood producer — will benefit. The losers are poor and disabled people who rely on Medicaid for life-saving treatments and therapies.
I’ve written about the impact of Medicaid cuts on disabled people and low-income communities. It will be bad news for the families that I care about.
This bill will benefit the Bezos crowd. Mamdani isn’t an authentic speaker for the real losers in this bill. The real losers won’t be heard. The thunderdome battle is between tacky and insipid people, while the real losers will be forgotten.

A new study shows a big shift in the demographics of college students. Most are over 22 and are working while studying. There has also been a staggering increase in neurodivergent learners by 267% since 2004.
We took our autistic son to Universal Studios last week. Except for the new Nintendo park, the place was not packed. We sat in empty restaurants at 6:oo. The staff was openly worried about the lack of tourism. Pictures of the fun here.
Medicaid Saves Disabled People
For eight hours today, I helped families with disabled children and young adults.
Medicaid Cuts Will Cause Chaos
In 1986, Trump brashly rebuilt Wollman Ice Rink in Central Park when the city was too incompetent to manage this task. This was Trump's defining moment. He was the hero of New York! He bested the Koch administration! Everything that Trump does today is an attempt to relive that special moment.
My sentiments exactly!
