The Supreme Court started popping out one blockbuster decision after another about a week ago. We learned that Donald Trump tried to choke his security guy in an effort to join the wack-a-doodles outside the Capital on January 6th. Seriously big stuff has been happening in our political world. Surprisingly, I am not hearing people talk about these issues in real life. And polls reinforce my experiences, showing that people are more concerned with economic issues, rather than political issues.
I don’t know what to write about today. Do I tell people the bad news and drive them away? Or do I give people my recipe for grilled chicken tacos? I could honestly go either way. I think I’ll be brief and give y’all some good news AND some bad news links. You guys can choose what to read.
The Bad News
Yascha Mounk is pretty sure that we’re heading for disaster. “Donald Trump is on course to reconquer the White House. To save the republic, we need a radical change of direction.”
From my blog: “Over the weekend, Steve put on his History PhD hat and started ranting about 1930’s Germany — it’s never a good sign when Steve does this. He said that Germans knew that the Nazis were creeps, but the average citizens had been through so much by that point, they circled their wagons around their families and stopped caring about the politics and their neighbors.” Read more here.
I’ve been dealing with some really heavy stuff this week. Lots of advocacy for Ian and paperwork garbage. Our whole system of helping people with disabilities is totally broken.
The Good News
It’s July 4th weekend, and we’re celebrating with lots of barbecues and fun.
I'm having some girlfriends over for rosé and chicken tacos in two hours. I marinated the chicken this morning in a bath of salad dressing, lemons and garlic. I’m making a white cilantro sauce and grilling pineapple to put into the tacos. Rice in the rice maker. Steve made a bag of black bean in the InstaPot this morning. I’m going to make them more yummy by cooking them for another hour with pork ribs, fresh onion, chicken broth, cumin and other spices.
Summer means lots of weekend activities. Suburban joys keep on going even though the world is weird.
Even though inflation is a bummer, stores have too much inventory, so there are going to be great sales this weekend. I’m planning on buying some very cute summery dresses in the Sundance catalog for 25% off.
Brown encyclopedia are back in style. I did a photoshoot this week of two big sets of books for my shop.
Okay, that’s enough. Have a great holiday weekend, people! Give your loved ones a hug and a frosty drink. And worry not, until next week.
