Community Colleges offer all the basic academics and also career training at a fraction of the cost. Where I live there is guaranteed admission to State colleges after two years of full credits.
You think the national Republican Party is actually concerned about math and reading scores, and intends to pursue substantive policy remedies on that issue?
Well, god help us if the people discussing think that the issue is actually being addressed for any reason but for naked and transitory political advantage. If their heads actually turn, then I question whether they're "discussing" it in any way that means well or seeks actual solutions.

Oh absolutely not. I do think that is a smart political move to address the issue. So much discussion at the local level about this topic.

People are upset about test scores at the local level, for sure. They will follow whoever echoes that sentiment.
