At the risk of sounding pedantic, to the best of my knowledge, neither Musk nor any of the 6 engineers working for him, have an approved Security Clearance of any level. As someone who used to work with Classified material, this is even more worrisome.
I too worked with classified material my whole career. My experience was that anyone "important" enough could be cleared in a day. The rest of us waited and were audited constantly.
I got called in and threatened to have my security clearance pulled because I supposedly had not paid property taxes for land I didn't own, in a state where I'd never lived. When I asked them if they had verified by SSN, not just name, they went silent. Of course pulling my clearance would have meant I was unable to keep my job, quite a threat. Little people got the scrutiny of the incompetent, those who were more important got real effort, The system was a joke in 1990 and still is.
It is not worrisome at all, Musk and these guys were cleared in some way, probably immediately after the election. Trump would have covered their butts. And as we've seen in the news, Hillary put her secret stuff on her basement server, Trump and Biden just carried it out in boxes and stored it in their homes. So it's not all that important is it?
