As a private tutor with my own company and mama bear of 2 special needs sons, I cannot agree more that tutoring students who are struggling, especially those who are neurodiverse, is helping.
I too took action in California by writing, speaking, petitioning and rallying. It did nothing. The teachers union and governor were just too powerful. It was painful to see CA parents get nowhere with this heavily locked door blocking our way to our kids normalcy. Our kids suffered, we took action, and it did nothing. They stayed in those bedrooms way longer than they should have and we DO know who to blame. Maddening.
Sorry that happened to you and your family, Erika. CA might have been one of the strongest closures in the country. I talked to one OT in CA who had interact with highly involved pre-school kids over Zoom. The craziest part of that story was that they were all in the same building. The kids with their aides were in one room. The tenured staff was in another talking to kids through Zoom. Just insanity!
A FANTASTIC PIECE OF JOURNALISM, LAURA. AND SPICED WITH HUMOR!
Your proud Daddy
Thanks to my "very objective" daddy!
Great reading π
I am a happy dad of an autistic 13 years old successful kid.
It's been years of literal coaching/parenting since my son was luckily diagnosed Autistic at age 4.
It has been a curse & a blessing π
I was diagnosed myself 2 weeks ago.
I lived in the US between 2018 and 2021. Happily back in the UK π where tensions/dissensions are not as extrem than in America.
We are lucky to have a functioning educational system where my kid can thrive with support from us and his grammar school.
I subscribe now to your newsletters, and I send a link to my wife who is pationate about the subject of autism π§.
But who wouldn't be? π
Thank you for your blog. π
Thanks, Ruben!!

Yes. Lots of research have shown that high-dosage tutoring is the best way to overcome learning lag from the pandemic.
